Ocklawaha River

Ocklawaha River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Ocklawaha is a fabulous paddling river. However, it was forever altered when it was to be a primary waterway for the Florida Cross State Canal. Before the peninsula-dividing canal was permanently halted, parts of Ocklawaha were extensively channelized and developed, yet most of the Ocklawaha flows in its natural wild cast.

Ironically, condemnation of the river’s borderlands has now resulted in protected banks on the Ocklawaha and a preserved corridor that is the Cross Florida Greenway. Some sections of the river have been rendered less than desirable for paddling. The stretch of river from Moss Bluff to County Road 314 was channelized to allow muck farming."

This is a pretty run to the lake in very flat water. Launched at the boat ramp which makes for easy access. There are many opportunities to view wild life of various types. Fishing appears to be good as there were many bass boats in the area. Not remarkable but fun.
