Sanibel Island Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Sanibel Island lies at the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River and offers the paddler
two very different experiences. To the north are shallow, sheltered waters with creeks
extending far into mangrove forest, and to the south are exposed sand beaches."

Tidal Information
Landing possibilities are fewer on the mangrove section; pick a day with low chance of thunderstorms. At Blind Pass, beware of fishing lines around the bridge. Tide races form at Blind Pass and Point Ybel. There is the added hazard of boats speeding close to shore at Point Ybel. You may experience strong currents under the bridges between the causeway islands that lead to Sanibel from your launch site.
