This hike travels through Pinellas County’s premier bayside preserve. Explore mangrove marsh and island communities, traveling foot trails and extensive boardwalks on historic Weedon Island, where a cultural and natural history center is the focal point for an interactive interpretive education experience that you should combine with your hike. Weedon Island Preserve covers over 3,000 acres on the west side of Old Tampa Bay. It is the site of 8,000-plus years of human occupation, including an 800-year period where the aboriginals created an oft-studied culture. Today, Weedon Island is enjoyed as a public land. Formerly a state park, it is now managed by Pinellas County.
