Myakka State Forest Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Pines, palmetto, and sand with a few swampy depressions are the ecological stories of this forest. The 2.5 miles of forest frontage on the Myakka River is beautiful and very southern: cypress, wispy Spanish moss, blue and green dragonflies searching lazily for a meal in the hot sun.
Hiking and horseback riding on the trails in the forest are popular in the cooler months, while in the warmer months visitors take to the river for fishing, boating, and paddling. Other popular forest activities are off-road bicycling, wildlife viewing, and hunting."
