Few trails in Florida come closer to the Atlantic Ocean than the ten-mile, doubletrack network of loops on this peninsula. The Tolomato River, a section of the Intracoastal Waterway, borders the park on the west. The land between it and the Atlantic Ocean goes from low-lying marsh to high ground with hardwoods and pines. But you're never far from water. Or sand. In fact, it is easy to think of Florida as equal parts of water and sand. The wide paths are marked by color codes and can be easily followed except on the north end, where the trails leave the park and enter the wildlife management area. Otherwise, you can expect tot see high dunes and a large midden-mounds of shells whose clams and oysters fed the first humans in this area.

Except for a short single track trail with Palmetto roots in the north section, this is easy biking. More for the family, maybe some speedwork or night riding since the trails are not technical. Insects especially mosquitos, yellow flies, and ticks are numerous and hungry in the summer.
