Boggess Hole Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This and the Cape Haze Paddle are both sheltered water trips in the shallow water of Gasparilla Sound and Island Bay in Charlotte Harbor. Advanced paddlers find them both interesting routes in almost any weather, and each is ideal for beginners in calm weather.

Much of the area is covered by knee-deep (or less) water, so never gets very rough. But because it is difficult to paddle if the water is too shallow to accommodate your entire blade, be cautious if the wind is from the west. A west wind will quickly carry you along your route from the launch, but it may be difficult to work your way back."

There is little tidal range, but because the water is so shallow, a drop of a few inches makes paddling more difficult.
Tidal Information
The area offers some shelter in windy conditions, but shallow water makes for difficult paddling against the wind.
