Econfina River of Taylor County

Econfina River of Taylor County Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Econfina River of Taylor County, in the Big Bend, is not to be confused with Econfina Creek of Washington and Bay counties. This Econfina is lesser known as a paddling destination and is certainly underused as such. That may change, though, because the Econ?na has been designated as a National Recreation Trail.

Born in the swamps of Pedro Bay east of Perry, the Econfina gathers water and becomes a stream in the far east of Taylor County. Fallen trees and submerged logs generally keep it impassable to all but the most strenuous paddlers until the US 98 bridge. Here, a boat ramp allows easy access the beginning of a beautiful trip through the jungle-like terrain of a swamp river."

This river truly exemplifies what a Florida river is and what you come to expect from a old Florida river. Having spent may a day and night on this river both as a job (Outward Bound instructor) and solo going from Fargo to the Gulf this river is simply awesome!

With the introduction of the Suwannee River canoe trail there are three developed river camps open to paddlers only. Spaced out a days paddle between them. They run between White Springs and the State Park.

Enjoy this river it has something for everyone.
