Gulf Islands National Seashore marks the westernmost point of the Florida National Scenic Trail, at Fort Pickens. As part of the Florida Trail, the national seashore offers the only oceanside beach walk in the entire national trail system. You will see only a tiny part of it, since the 137,598-acre national seashore extends into Mississippi. Only 65,816 acres are in Florida. The beach sand is bright, clean, and sparkling. However, you will be in the open; sun and glare will take their toll unless you lather up well with sunscreen and carry sufficient water. Dark glasses and a hat are essentials, too. Nearest town: Pensacola Beach
