Rotenberger Wildlife Management Area Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Rotenberger is part of a complex of areas designed to save South Florida from itself. There is no office and no attendant except the occasional game warden. The Everglades starts at the north end, which is just south of Lake Okeechobee. At 28,760 acres—and surrounded by vast wetlands on all sides—this WMA is the most northern extent of original sawgrass marsh.

Here you can photograph wading birds and hunt for deer, hogs, and waterfowl. While airboats or tracked vehicles are necessary to reach the interior, the extensive network of levees and canals constructed for flood control will let you fish, gig for frogs, or hike, bike, and chill out. Bring sunscreen, a wide-brim hat, and effective bug spray."
