Holey Land Wildlife Management Area Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Calling this vast area of lowlands a WMA labels the nameless. South Florida is a miraculous area of water and wildlife, sun and wind; and humans have been little more than trouble for the glades ecosystem. So designating this flat land a WMA and regulating human activity is some small measure of restoration. The only facilities are boat ramps at the extreme southeast and northwest corners. Nevertheless, a surprising number of campers occupy the levees—the only high ground in the 35,350 acres and none of it shaded—at one time or another during the year, but especially during hunting seasons.

If it rains and you are in the interior, it is important to have 4-wheel-drive; if it rains hard, consider making your bed on the roof. Although the interior can only be accessed by airboats or tracked vehicles, the levees and canals afford plenty of opportunities for bird-watching, fishing, hiking, and biking."
