South Creek and Blackburn Point

South Creek and Blackburn Point Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is a 5.5-mile round-trip from Blackburn Point County Park, under the historic 1926 Blackburn Point Bridge (a metal swing bridge), south along the Intracoastal Waterway east of Casey Key, and up South Creek into the lush vegetation and calm of Scherer State Park. Paddle as far up the creek as you wish, or are able to, before returning.

There is a shaded picnic area with easy canoe and kayak landing in the park, and restrooms—a good place for a break on your way back. Camping is available at Oscar Scherer State Park. If you stay there, then run the route in reverse, stopping for lunch at the waterfront Casey Key Fish House at Blackburn Point before returning to base. Note: There is no overnight parking allowed at the Blackburn Point launch."

Tidal Information
Boat traffic can get intense on the Intracoastal Waterway, especially within the channel marked by red and green lateral buoys. Keep close to shore to avoid most boats and keep watch. Take a direct route when you cross the boat channel.
