Turner River Road Scenic Drive Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Sightseeing from your car with periodic stops along the way is a popular venue for those who drive this road. The canal that borders the road can be lively with alligators, otters, wading birds, ducks, and sometimes hundreds of swallows that swarm down en masse to sip water on the wing. Drive slowly to avoid running over snakes, turtles, and other wildlife that cross the road.
The road is very dusty during the dry season and there may be occasional potholes. Proceed slowly and with caution. Be courteous and slow down when approaching parked vehicles and people, especially when the roadway is dusty. There are private land holdings along this road as well, so please respect private property.
This can be a very rewarding sightseeing trip. Some of the views are outstanding, and wildlife abounds in and around the canal during most of the year. It is best during low water when wildlife congregates around deeper, and more permanent, water sources."
