Juniper Springs and Juniper Creek

Juniper Springs and Juniper Creek Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Juniper Springs flows almost as clear as air. Back in the 1930s, when the Ocala National Forest recreation area was developed, the spring upwelling was enclosed in a rock-and-concrete wall, creating an alluring swimming pool. You will see an old waterwheel that was once used to make electricity for the site using the spring’s outflow. The put-in is a short distance below the waterwheel.

Juniper Creek starts barely wide enough for a kayak or canoe below rich, canopied woodland. It then enters the gorgeous Juniper Prairie Wilderness, through which it flows until just above the FL 19 bridge. Paddlers will use all their skills navigating the sharp turns, cypress stumps, and overhanging palms and other trees. Kayaks in excess of 14 feet are not recommended. After rains, the crystalline waters can become stained, and the resulting higher water can make the run even more challenging."

Crystal clear and lots of twists and turns. Beautiful and fast water when we were there.
