Halloway Island

Halloway Island Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This trip makes a circuit of Halloway Island, passing through Rookery Bay. The many mangrove islands in Rookery Bay provide nesting sites for thousands of birds. Late spring is a good time to be here to watch the hatchlings, but avoid disturbing
the birds. From the Shell Island Road launch, head north for 0.25 mile. Keep left of the small mangrove island and look for an opening with an orange channel/trail marker with a white sign.

Follow the trail markers through small bays and canopied mangrove channels (a wandering 280 degrees). When you exit the mangrove channel, you will be entering Rookery Bay. Here you leave the channel/trail markers and paddle across Rookery Bay to the northwest corner (1.5 miles, 290 degrees)."
