Spanish Pond Loop Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"One of Jacksonville’s finest day hikes, this trek travels over wooded ancient dunes of a maritime hammock onto even hillier Timucuan shell mounds, past a hermit’s cabin, to an observation point overlooking a salt marsh along the St. Johns. Your return trip passes a Confederate soldier’s grave and then reaches a high point and vista before returning to the trailhead.
The Theodore Roosevelt Area of the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve covers 600 acres of maritime ham-mock, salt marshes, and incredible shell mounds, deposited by the Timucuan Indians. A quality trail system has been integrated into the tract."
