Florida Caverns Tour

Florida Caverns Tour Professional Review and Guide

"Much of Northwest and North Florida is honeycombed with limestone caves, but most remain flooded because of the state’s high water table. The multitude of dry caverns in this park are an unusual exception.

A remarkable variety of formations decorate the caverns: soda straws, stalactites, stalagmites, columns, rimstones, flowstones, and draperies. Special Attractions: An underground tour of approximately one-hour through Florida’s version of Carlsbad Cavern and Mammoth Cave. The tours are offered several times daily."

I've been on the cave tours quite a few times! Definitely worth it! Like nothing I have ever seen before. But the caves are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, so plan accordingly. There are 2 trails, if I remember correctly, both are very short, 1 mile put together at the most, but has some great scenery. Lots of standing water, so make sure you bring your bug spray!
The cavern tour is definitely worth your while, but don't pass up the opportunity to hike the Flood Plain trail. This short trail along the flood plain of the Chipola River has some beautiful vegetation, wildflowers and varied terrain. There is a tunnel "cave" and limestone bluffs along the walk. Very nice walk. Keep some mosquito repellent handy in the summer months.
