"This chapter on the birding areas around the Marco Island area includes descriptions of the bird-watching at these various destinations: Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, Briggs Nature Center, Tigertail Beach, Frank E. Mackle Jr. Community Park, Eagle Lakes Community Park and Sugden Regional Park.

The specialty birds in this birding area include: Mottled Duck, Magnificent Frigatebird, Reddish Egret, Roseate Spoonbill, Wood Stork, Snail Kite, Bald Eagle, Limpkin, Sandhill Crane, Wilson’s Plover, Snowy Plover, American Oystercatcher, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Burrowing Owl, Florida Scrub-Jay, Least Tern, Mangrove Cuckoo, Gray Kingbird, Blackwhiskered Vireo, Peregrine Falcon, Piping Plover, Whimbrel, Lesser Nighthawk, Western Kingbird, Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Bronzed Cowbird, Shiny Cowbird, White-rumped Sandpiper and Black Tern."
