Nature Trail: Curry Hammock State Park Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"One of Florida’s newer state parks, Curry Hammock encompasses more than a thousand acres on five different islands in the Middle Keys. It contains one of the largest remaining stands of Florida thatch palm in North America.
This small- to mediumsize tree, native to the lower Florida Keys and many Caribbean islands, has shiny light green leaves that were overharvested to make waterproof thatch roofs. Overall, thatch palm is scarce these days because so much of it was used to make roofs for homes and bars. At Curry Hammock, thatch palm trees are still abundant."
