This overlooked preserve on the Alafia River, located next to the much more popular Alderman’s Ford Park, offers quality day hiking that travels through mixed woodland, open country, and along the Alafia River, with its sonorant rapids. The trail also passes by an old oxbow lake and reaches a historic brick trestle from an abandoned railroad. Most people in the Tampa Bay area have heard of Alderman’s Ford Park. It has a quality 2-mile paved loop trail that locals use for their daily exercise. However, downriver and accessible from Brandon Boulevard is Alderman’s Ford Preserve. This 970-acre tract was purchased by Hillsborough County and borders Alderman’s Ford Park on its east end.
