St Mary's River Loop Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This hike explores the Ralph E. Simmons State Forest, rolling through mixed woodland before descending to the St. Mary’s River, where a sandy river access allows good views of the river dividing Florida from Georgia. Travel along the river corridor. Your return route climbs from the river bottom and then loops back to the trailhead.
This hike travels through the southern portion of the Ralph
E. Simmons State Forest, a 3,700-acre swath of land stretching along the St. Mary’s River in Nassau County. Interestingly,
this forest has within its bounds the most northerly parcel of
the Sunshine State. Throughout its length, the St. Mary’s
River forms the boundary line between Florida and Georgia."
