Blue Cypress Park Hike

Blue Cypress Park Hike Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This Jacksonville city park hike takes you along the shores of the St. Johns River and out to a pier with a great view of downtown Jacksonville and beyond. It also loops into a towering maritime hammock rife with live oaks. The first part of the hike travels among developed facilities at this multipurpose preserve.

Once known primarily for its golf course, Blue Cypress Park has since been transformed into more of a multipurpose facility, with an added emphasis on its natural features. In fact, the former eighteen-hole course was reduced to nine holes. Originally part of the Edenfield Estates housing
development, the environmentally sensitive and scenic 118-acre tract was purchased by the city. It is set on the eastern bank of the St. Johns River, north of downtown, on land that would go for astronomical prices these days, for its river views alone."

This trail is still significantly impacted by Hurricane Irma last Fall (2017). The boardwalk along the river is torn apart and impassable. The trails are not well maintained and we ended up walking more than half the hike along busy University Blvd. When it is kept up and maintained this is a nice urban hiking trail.
