Indian Key Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is a short trip to an island where, in 1840, some sixteen people were killed in a surprise Indian attack. At that time an entrepreneur named Houseman, who had already begun a number of profitable schemes on the island, was attempting to negotiate a permit from the government to hunt and kill Seminole Indians at $200 per head.

Explore the historic areas on a ranger-guided tour (for a small fee). You may contact the Indian Key State Historical Site at (305) 664-4815 to book a guided walking tour."
