Chassahowitzka River Campground: Indian Ridge Loop Professional Review and Guide

"The Chassahowitzka River Campground is at the head of a spring and makes for an ideal location to explore this watery Florida treasure. The Chassahowitzka River is the centerpiece of the 32,000-acre Chassahowitzka River National Wildlife Refuge.

This piece of wild Florida can be explored by water or on foot. A boat launch is within walking distance of the campground. Other pursuits in the refuge must be accessed by car first. The campground itself is run by Citrus County."

Wonderful opportunity to do a little hiking with younger kids. No elevation to speak of means kids can still see alot of natural scenery without the need to climb. The campground is an AWESOME camping area. Adults will appreciate the numerous activities to keep kids involved in the outdoors. From the natural spring swimming hole, (very refreshing 72 degrees), to the canoe run *(several wildlife watching opportunities) adults and kids alike will be impressed.
This trail was pretty spectacular, especially for a boardwalk trail. There were some smaller trails that broke off the boardwalk, they were minor trails, but fun. We really enjoyed the campgrounds. It would have to be one of the best, most spacious, clean and fun campgrounds in Florida. Each camp site is 2-3xs what most campgrounds give for space. There are so many trrees and ground cover to give each site almost total privacy, but yet you can still see what is going on around. Great for children. There are lots of hills for bike riding. It was the most friendly places I have been. All the children played with everyone elses children, all the adults looked out for all of the children. Oh, and HOT showers, so fabulous. The springs were so beautiful, and the canoeing was alot of fun, I can't wait to go scuba diving next time we are here.I highly recommend this trail, campgrounds and spring. This has the most things to do in the most beautiful settings.
