Old Ingraham Trail

Old Ingraham Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Historic Old Ingraham Trail can be accessed off Gumbo Limbo Trail or at the southwest corner of the cleared area near the parking lot of Royal Palm Hammock. It was once the road that led to Flamingo but was closed after the new road was completed. Old Ingraham Trail is not marked with signage, but it offers good birding opportunities as it bisects various habitats. It is a wide trail that is excellent for hikers and backpackers. Because the trail is seldom traveled, it is especially nice for those seeking solitude.

Old Ingraham Trail runs south-southwest for about 6 miles and then turns due west. The Ernest F. Coe campsite is 6 miles from the trailhead at Royal Palm Hammock, and the Old Ingraham campsite is at the end of the 11-mile trail. A required backcountry camping permit can be obtained at the main entrance station. Readers should note that the entire Old Ingraham Trail just recently received official wilderness designation, meaning bicycling is no longer allowed."
