Nine-Mile Pond Canoe Trail Professional Review and Guide
"This loop trail is located within Everglades National Park. The name Nine-Mile Pond leads you to believe this paddle is 9 miles, but it is actually 5 miles of multiple Everglades environments packed into one loop. It received its name because the pond was 9 miles from the original park visitor center at Coot Bay Pond. This trail is marked with sequentially numbered poles to help you navigate among the mangrove islands, prairies, and tree islands of the region. Prairies here are vastly different than in the Midwest. The Everglades’ prairies are open, treeless wetlands, with sawgrass emerging from atop the water. The water levels of these prairies change, depending on the wet or dry season, and can dry up completely at times."
