This 6,900-acre preserve just north of Gainesville is considered almost hallowed ground because it contains one of Florida’s few remaining mature forests, including several champion trees. Its eighteen natural communities are home to a wide variety of wildlife including bobcats, white-tailed deer, gray foxes, turkeys, numerous species of songbirds, and even waterfowl that take advantage of the wetlands and ponds.
