Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

Johnny Molloy
"This loop explores a variety of ecosystems within the Fort Braden Tract of Lake Talquin State Forest. First travel dry uplands before descending along a vegetationally rich sandbottom spring branch to reach Lake Talquin. Then meander along the lakeshore before working through damp bottoms, finally returning through steep hills back to the trailhead. of pathways. The orange-blazed trail begins as a singletrack path meandering west off sandhills into oak-dominated woodlands. Holly, magnolia, pine, and sweet bay trees work to keep the forest green throughout the year. The path crosses multiple springs emanating from the hillside the trail travels along before returning to the hilltop. The higher ground harbors scrub oaks and pines, a drier and sandier environment. It isn’t long before the ecotones change again as the loop turns north for Lake Talquin."
