Don’t be discouraged by the word bicycle in this trail’s name. The scenic path is open to hikers and is one of the better treks in the Jacksonville sphere. The hike travels a slender but long loop through maritime hardwood hammock forest on (nearly) continuously undulating terrain. Located within the confines of Fort Clinch State Park, this trail leaves historic Fort Clinch—which you should visit either before or after this hike—and then heads south along a wooded dune line running through the heart of Amelia Island. The ups and downs are almost constant as the path crests these tree-covered dunes and then dips into swales, only to repeat the performance again and again. You finally reach the southernmost point of the trail, cross Fort Clinch Road, and curve back north.
