Rainbow River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Rainbow River is a short tributary of the Withlacoochee River, near the town of Dunnellon. It has historically been a tourist attraction and has been heavily developed. Houses line much of the riverbank between Rainbow Springs and the Rainbow River’s con?uence with the Withlacoochee. Rainbow Springs is protected as a Florida state park, but it can be extremely
crowded, especially during the summer months.

There is a kayak/canoe launch in the park, but you have to carry your craft more than a quarter mile from the parking area. However, kayaks and canoes can be rented from a waterside concessionaire. Downstream, Marion County runs a
park where paddlers can launch their boats and enjoy the unspoiled, ultraclear waters, where ?sh, turtles, and other underwater life are easily visible in both the depths and shallows of the river. This run can be quite busy on weekends with tubers, canoeists, kayakers, and motorboaters all vying for a spot on the water."
