Small town interesting - if you don't like small towns, if you don't like looking at old houses, if you don't like eating at small Mom & Pop eateries, if you don't like searching for quaint antique places - then don't go. If you like all of the above, you will have a good afternoon in historic DeFuniak Springs. Stop at "The Bookstore" in downtown for a guide to the houses that surround the lake itself and some insight into the heyday of the area. Also, the store happens to be one of the cheapest and best used and new bookstores we've ever seen. After a good walk or short drive around the lake, stop at Murray's Cafe for local eats (try the burger with fried green tomatoes) before driving around and hitting the local antique markets. An easy detour from the US 331 Corridor between Montgomery and Florida's Emerald Coast. You won't send postcards home from DeFuniak Springs, but an actual legitimate small town that you don't mind spending money in because it's going to the locals.
