Blackwater Creek Nature Preserve Loop

Blackwater Creek Nature Preserve Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike stretches over a nearly 2,000-acre swath of land that harkens back to the days of the Florida Cracker cowboy as it travels through a myriad of environments, from cypress domes to palmetto prairies to pine flatwoods to riverine swamp forest. You will be surprised at the far-reaching views to be gained in this ranch-turned-preserve.

Blackwater Creek Nature Preserve is one of Hillsborough County’s finer properties, but you would never know it judging by the small number of hikers it receives. Perhaps this is because this former ranch still grazes a small number of cattle on the land in exchange for the former owner managing the property. But fear not, for the positive aspects of cruising through this mix of multiple environments is well worth stepping around a few cow patties."
