"Walk a series of nature trails through what was once a Confederate fort. Now you can enjoy not only the area history but also its natural beauty along McGirts Creek. It’s easy to extend your hike here, as Camp Milton Preserve serves as the primary trailhead for the Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail. historic area. You can also enjoy heritage trees that are planted along the paths.

The Confederate Army established a fort in 1864 and was
stationed here, trying to lure Union troops out of Jack-
sonville while simultaneously protecting the food pipeline
running north from the cattle country of Central Florida to
Rebel troops. Today, the site has not only been preserved
but also enhanced with interpretive trails that explain the historic area. You can also enjoy heritage trees that are
planted along the paths."
