    The waters surrounding Cape Henlopen differ from day to day and are very unpredictable. Some days are calm, but other times paddlers must grapple with standing waves and whirlpools. These hazards stretch around the cape and also out to the Harbor of Refuge Light. It is best to time this trip with slack tide. The mouth of Delaware Bay is a major thoroughfare for cargo ships making trips to and from Wilmington and Philadelphia, so be wary of boat traffic.
