Rock Creek Park Rapids Bridge Loop

Rock Creek Park: Rapids Bridge Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"See the rapids of Rock Creek on this wooded hike through the park. Look for deer and foxes along the trail.

Rock Creek Park is a true urban oasis. Right in the middle of the city, you can head into the woods on foot or horseback, see fall colors, hear nothing but birds and rushing water, and smell earthy fresh air. Washingtonians can see brilliant fall colors and early spring blossoms without leaving the city."

"Rock Creek National Park was established in 1890 by the federal government. This 1700-acre park extends from the DC–Maryland border south to the Potomac River, creating a buffer zone for the southern half of the 33-mile-long creek. Rock Creek Regional Park was established in the 1930s to provide green space for Montgomery County residents and buffer the northern half of the creek. The Rock Creek National Park Nature Center is an ideal location to start a family hike. Whether you visit the nature center before or after your hike, you can view their exhibits and live animals, play in their activity room, visit the planetarium (check the website for program times) and small bookstore, and talk to a ranger. Behind the nature center is a half-mile interpretive hike. Grab an interpretive brochure from the nature center or box at the trailhead, and learn about the park’s big trees, like the beech tree—nicknamed the grafitti tree." Read more
