Glover Archbold and Potomac Heritage Trail

Glover Archbold and Potomac Heritage Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Hikers make their way through the heavily wooded stream valley of Glover Archbold Park from American University to the C&O Canal surrounded by upscale neighborhoods in Northwest Washington. Glover Archbold Park is an urban oasis with a unique combination of residential, historical, and commercial enterprises existing harmoniously in a natural sanctuary. It’s popular with city dwellers, who use it to run, hike, and walk their dogs. Protected by the National Park Ser vice and part of the Potomac Heritage Trail Network, this trail starts and ends on Massachusetts Avenue Northwest, meandering through hilly woodlands and crossing three roadways.

On Massachusetts Avenue, there is free parking without meters, except for rush hour (7–10 a.m.) on weekdays. You can also take a bus from the Tenleytown Metro station to the trailhead."
