This shady trail follows the C&O Canal towpath along the canal to Fletchers Cove on the Potomac River. Stop along the way to cross Chain Bridge to Virginia, where you will enjoy nice views of Little Great Falls, the lower portion of Great Falls. This part of the C&O Canal towpath starts at Lock 6. The lockkeeper’s house here is available for overnight rental; visit www.canalquarters.org/lockhouse-6.php for information. Cross the lock via a small bridge and turn left onto the towpath. The path here is mostly forested on the right; in winter you catch glimpses of the Potomac River.
