This hike delivers with natural beauty and varied landscapes. Moderate is a fair overall rating, but readers should know that parts of the trail have uncertain footing, including finding your way over rocks. Additionally, if you choose to go back on the #2 trail -- the wildflower route -- be aware that you begin that return with quite a significant climb up out of the river valley. Overall, my friends and I had a terrific day out on the trails, and we especially enjoyed the variations in terrain and views. We had no idea there would be beach areas with sand only a few feet from rocky overlooks, for instance. We're all average guys, and we needed a lot of our water to get through the hike, so definitely do not undersell the amount of water you will need. The hike's rewards more than counter the challenges -- just beautiful country. I recommend this hike for anyone who's comfortable walking seven or eight miles, with periods of strenuous climbing over challenging terrain, but an overall moderate challenge because of flat sections through underbrush. Enjoy.
