Bantam River Stoddard Road to Shepaug River

Bantam River: Stoddard Road to Shepaug River Professional Review and Guide

"The Bantam is traditionally one of the early trips. Along with the Shepaug, it nestles in the western Connecticut hills. Several groups usually run both rivers on the same weekend. The Bantam provides an easy introduction to the bigger and far more exciting Shepaug, since it is class I–II depending on the water level.

To a hardy closed-boater, the Bantam is as exciting as riding the crest when someone pulls the plug of your bathtub. All foolishness aside, however, the water should be respected, because in March it is very cold and a swim then could dampen your enthusiasm for later trips."
