Pachaug State Forest

Pachaug State Forest Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"More than 700 miles of trail lace through Connecticut, creating a vast hiking network that encompasses the full spectrum of the state’s diversity. Known as the Blue-Blazed Trails, this network consists of 15 long-distance pathways and many other shorter trails.

Sprinkled among them are a handful of designated overnight backpacking areas. In southeastern Connecticut, 23,000-acre Pachaug State Forest shelters one of the nicest, and provides a tempting introduction to the state’s backpacking potential."

These trails lack 5 star scenery and ruggedness, but they are a great place to hike for the quietness.

The mere fact that this place is huge makes it appealing but it is also very easy to get lost as I did. Thankfully a local was able to direct me back to my car. THe terrain is mostly fire road but there are some single tracks off the main roads but once again these will definitley turn you around and get you lost. I was there on a chilly, sunny day in April and was just happy to be riding so the fact that I got lost didn't really bother me. A good place for beginners and people looking for a decent workout without having to deal with technical terrain.
