Great Pond State Forest

Great Pond State Forest Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This simple hike packs a lot of wallop. It unites a lovely vegetated pond active with beavers, ducks, geese, and croaking frogs with woodland that demonstrates James L. Goodwin’s concept for and devotion to forestry.

Goodwin was one of the nation’s first professionally trained forest managers. A pocket grove of towering rhododendron and abundant mountain laurel urge hikers out in spring, pond lilies decorate the scene in summer, and colored leaves and their watery doubles beckon in fall."
