The River Trail

The River Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"In the 1990s, a short section of the A.T. was paved to become a portion of the River Trail, a 1-mile wheelchair-accessible pathway in Falls Village. This was done, in part, as a way to demonstrate how the A.T. could follow the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The A.T. portion of the trip is along the Housatonic River, and signs mark sites of historic significance.

The upper part of the loop follows the route of a harness racing track from the 1800s. Along the way, there are pleasant views of the rapids and small falls on the river as the Trail passes through open fields and green forests. The variety of scenery and ease of travel make this a good trip to take with the kids."
