Putnam Memorial State Park

Putnam Memorial State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Take this hands-on walk through history at the site of the Continental Army’s 1779 winter encampment under the command of General Israel Putnam in Bethel. Actual encampment remains await exploration along with reconstructed officers’ barracks.

This interpretive trail in Putnam Memorial State Park is much more a trail of discovery than one of challenge and scenery. If you desire more of a workout after visiting, combine it with the loop in Collis Huntington State Park, as covered in the next chapter, which is only a ten-minute drive away."
