Old Lyme: Beach Trip Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Old Lyme is a quiet shoreline town with a rich arts heritage, stemming largely from the efforts of Florence Griswold, or “Miss Florence” as the locals call her, an enterprising early-20th-century resident who ran a boarding house for artists and supported the early American impressionism movement.
Route 1 and the roads around it are all fairly high-volume, high-speed, so use caution and stick to the shoulder. If taking the detour to Rocky Neck, be aware that the highway exits right at the beach, and traffic can be a bit hectic there.
This mostly flat ride starts in a dense part of Old Lyme, by the Morning Glory Cafe. If the parking lot is full, other parking is available at the commuter lot just down the street, off of I-95 exit 70, or at the Old Lyme Shopping Center, a nearby strip mall development. Three optional detours explore wetlands and beaches and, added together, all three detours could increase the ride by nearly 9 miles, for a 23-mile trip."
