New Haven to Lighthouse Point

New Haven to Lighthouse Point Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Although best known for Yale University, New Haven was once an important harbor city during the Industrial Revolution. Eli Whitney, a former Yale student, developed the cotton gin and manufactured firearms in a local factory; the harbor, railroad, and short-lived canal made the city a shipping center for weapons, known as “The Arsenal of America” during the Civil War.

New Haven doesn’t enjoy the same scenic reputation as neighboring shoreline towns, but the city has a number of park properties along the water and a historic district developed during the height of oyster fishing. This route visits several hidden gems, with the centerpiece being Lighthouse Point Park.
Other highlights include a ride along the Quinnipiac River, historic forts, and town parks and greens. This route begins on the northwest corner of the upper New Haven Green, on Chapel Street, by the Pierre Lallement plaque."
