New Haven Hills Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Westville is a thriving and distinct neighborhood of New Haven, located on the northwest border with the suburban communities of Woodbridge and Orange. The village consists of mixed-use development, impressively maintained old homes, several parks, and a quaint, historic downtown.

This ride starts at the corner of Edgewood Park, by the intersection of West Rock and Whalley Avenues. The route follows beautiful long roads past tranquil preserves into water company land, before entering a small valley followed by a 400-foot climb and a long, fast descent back into Westville. The climb, up Bethany Mountain Road, is referred to by area cyclists as Holiday Hill, named after the longtime resort at the top. Carefully exit the park, onto Whalley Avenue, bearing right on the fork to stay on Whalley."
