Peoples Forest Professional Review and Guide
"With the adjacent American Legion Forest, the Peoples Forest combines to form an impressive array of conserved lands on both sides of the Wild and Scenic Farmington River. Connecticut acquired the first portions of both forests in the mid-1920s. The American Legion Forest was donated to the state with the hope of demonstrating proper forest management. Around the same time, the Connecticut Forest and Park Association spearheaded an effort to assemble the Peoples Forest. Today, visitors flock to the area for swimming, fishing, and exploring the more than 10 miles of hiking trails that weave throughout. This nearly 5-mile loop showcases stands of old timber, scenic ledges, and tranquil wetlands."
