Wadsworth Falls State Park

Wadsworth Falls State Park Professional Review and Guide

"The town of Middlefield, 3 miles southwest of Middletown. Some of these trails have regular short, steep climbs and descents. Watch out for narrow, eroded areas along steep banks on the Laurel Brook Trail-do not skid on them. Always watch for other trail users."

"Waterfalls are favorite trailside features for adults as well as kids. On this hike, you’ll encounter two of them. Even better, these falls can be enjoyed by the youngest hikers because the route we’ve chosen is appropriate for everyone.

If you visit in the spring, you’ll get the full effect of swelled rivers exploding over the cliffs. In the warmer months, you can cool off after your hike with a swim at the pond located near the park’s main entrance. Picnic tables and fireplaces are available for those who want to cook up a post-hike feast."

"From the parking lot, proceed left through the picnic area to the bridge (not the covered bridge) that spans Laurel Grove Brook. Main Trail, marked with a sign and orange blazes, crosses the bridge shaded by hemlock trees and proceeds uphill into woods of birch, ash, apple, red cedar, and cherry, with an understory of scattered burning bush. Round, leafy squirrel nests are a common sight in the treetops."
