Cockaponset State Forest Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"In south-central Connecticut, this state forest offers a tranquil woods retreat and access to Pattaconk Reservoir. The forest boasts a fine well-blazed trail system. The selected hike navigates the interlocking threads of the forest’s Pattaconk and Cockaponset Trails for an all-day, see-the-forest, barbell-shaped tour. You will explore pond, woods, laurel groves, and low rock ledges.
For this ambitious hike, you round the barrier and follow the blue blazes (west) to reach the junction with the blue/red Pattaconk Trail. Turn left, following the Pattaconk south for a counterclockwise lower loop. You pass through mixed woods of beech, witch hazel, maple, oak, and mountain laurel, ascending a low ridge with a rocky crest. Mossy shelves and fern caps dress the rocks."
