Housatonic River—Cornwall Bridge to Kent Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This 10-mile stretch of the Housatonic River has no portages but does have several ledges and minor rapids that need to be run. Coming from the south, this very scenic drive gives you a chance to enjoy this beautiful valley. The road follows the river, and there are several places that give you a good view of the river below, including several of its hazards. There is very little parking at the take-out. For this reason you may want to stop at the take-out on the way by and leave a car that can be used to shuttle after the trip, and then continue to Cornwall Bridge.

The river is wide and shallow at the put-in, as it will be most of the trip. When the water is low, there may be some scraping and rock dodging right from the beginning. There is also no clear channel that will get you though. The first stretch also has several areas of flat water in between the rocks and ripples."
