Connecticut Audubon Center at Trail Wood Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"From the parking area, turn left onto the gravel farm lane. Cross Hampton Brook on a stone bridge and continue up the gentle slope to a white farmhouse dating to 1806. The lane is bordered by stone walls, the right one festooned with grapevines and multiflora rose. Hay-scented fern is luxuriant in summer along the lane and wall.

Pass hickories on the left and curve right around the house. Trail maps and a visitor registry are inside the garage annex to the left. The effervescent song of the house wren celebrates the summer season as you follow the mowed path through what the Teales called the Starfield. Here, they marveled at the depth and clarity of the rural night sky."
